Mews House in Kensington
An ever evolving space, Stringer Interiors has been working with the clients of this Mews House in Kensington for many years, making tweaks and alterations along the way as the family has grown up.
In 2017, with the children in their early twenties but still living at home, the clients decided to go for a more dramatic change calling in the architect firm studio JaM to reconfigure the ground floor. The small kitchen and dining room at the front of the house were switched over with the larger drawing room at the back – the floor of this room was dropped and the window opened up to take new crittal doors looking across the garden to an office and yoga space beyond. The clients having recognised that the kitchen was the heart of the house needed a space that reflected this.
Stringer Interiors was brought in to advise on the furniture, soft furnishings, rugs, blinds, paint colours and panelling.
Choosing an oval Capricorn dining table by Tom Faulkner and his iconic Vienna carver dining chairs, Stringer Interiors also had a bespoke curved bench designed and all upholstered in a mix of leather and epingle fabric.
The previous kitchen and dining area meanwhile became a reading and tv corner tucked away at the other end of the house. Bespoke panelling was designed to give the room a more traditional library feel and B&B Italia sofas were used to wrap around the corner and extend into the inner room linking the two. With a wool rug made in India, cushions made from vintage fabrics and an old ottoman upholstered in a shot of orange velvet, this small corner has become a cosy and inviting space.
Upstairs, wallpaper, headboards, curtains and soft furnishings have been added to bedrooms and a new stair carpet installed.
